Kuwait International Law School (‘KILAW’) stands as the first private law institution in Kuwait, originating as the second in the country alongside the esteemed Kuwait University School of Law. Founded with a focus on delivering exceptional legal education, KILAW aspired to offer a unique blend of international, local, and Arabic legal perspectives aimed at fostering a modern educational approach centered on critical thinking.
At its inception, KILAW introduced a curriculum encompassing six mandatory legal courses taught in English, with students having the option to pursue up to 12 legal courses in English should they choose. Setting itself apart from traditional Arab universities, KILAW provides students with the opportunity to engage in six specialized courses that are typically not offered in mainstream institutions, including subjects such as planning law, European law, international trade law, competition law, law and IT, and Islamic financial transaction law.
In addition to academic coursework, students are required to participate in a specialized program designed to enhance their proficiency in legal English, ensuring readiness for English-language instruction. The school has established partnerships with affiliated universities to facilitate student exchange programs, exemplified by unique initiatives like the "Legal Clinic" workshops integrated into the academic curriculum.
Fostering an international outlook while emphasizing the development of students' professional ethics and legal acumen through Arabic-language courses, KILAW is committed to employing innovative teaching methodologies and tools. By integrating practical elements such as court rulings and legislative updates into the curriculum, as well as highlighting Sharia’a Laws (Islamic laws) within the legal theory framework, KILAW sets itself apart within Kuwait's legal education landscape.
Furthermore, KILAW offers immersive experiences through moot court exercises and parliamentary simulations, complemented by resources like an audio-visual library and participation in prestigious competitions such as the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Competition. The institutional structure of KILAW combined with its distinguished faculty contributions create a conducive learning environment dedicated to nurturing legal professionals.
As KILAW progresses towards becoming a leading center for legal education, under the guidance of President Prof. Mohammad AlMoqatei, its commitment to excellence remains steadfast.
